- Your substrate
Concrete, tile or plywood. Shown here for plywood; the builder adjusts the stack to yours.
- Prep
Plywood gets a skim coat of Ardex X5 across the whole face, 1.5 to 2 mm, with SK Mesh set into the sheet seams, cured 24 hours before the primer goes on.
- 1Grip Primer1 coat
One coat of gritty primer gives a slick or sealed surface the grip the first coat needs.
- 2Decorkrete2 coats
The hero product of every microcement system. Two hand-trowelled coats with your choice of colour, and the trowel work gives each surface a pattern of its own.
- 3D201 coat
One coat on the sanded Decorkrete evens out absorption so the sealer goes on smooth.
- 4Aquafloor Eco3 coats
The final protective layer. Three matte coats keep your system looking seamless for years to come, and high-traffic floors can take a fourth.

Everything you need to know about microcement before starting your project.
Concrete and cement screed are the home substrates. Plywood works when the build is right, 3/4 inch minimum and properly fastened, with the prep the guide walks through. Dry floors take Grip Primer as the bonding bridge; where moisture is part of the picture, WATstop takes its place.
Yes. The system goes over radiant floors with one discipline: the heat stays off through install and restarts no sooner than 48 hours after, gently. A slow return to temperature lets the cure finish before the floor starts moving heat.
Coats take the next coat within 24 hours, and the system reaches full cure in 7 days. Give it that window before heavy traffic and furniture. Felt pads under the legs are cheap insurance on any sealed floor, this one included.
Thickness and reach. Polished concrete is the slab itself ground and refined, so it lives where the slab lives. This system is 2 to 3 mm built over what you already have, which means it climbs stairs, wraps curbs and runs room to room in one unbroken surface, on concrete or wood alike.
Microcement can be applied to virtually any stable surface including concrete, tile, drywall, plywood, and existing countertops. The surface must be clean, solid, and properly primed. Our Grip Primer ensures excellent adhesion to most substrates.
Yes, when properly sealed with our Aquafloor Eco sealer. This makes it perfect for showers, bathrooms, kitchens, and even swimming pools. The sealer creates an impermeable barrier that protects against water damage.
The complete microcement system is only 2-3mm thick. This means you can apply it over existing surfaces without significantly raising floor heights or affecting door clearances.
While experienced DIYers can achieve good results, microcement application does require skill and attention to detail. We offer training and support for DIY projects. Our System Builder includes everything you need with detailed instructions.
A typical bathroom or small project takes 4-5 days to complete, including proper curing time between coats. Larger projects may take longer. The process includes primer, base coats, finish coats, and sealer - each requiring drying time.
Decorkrete is available in 6 standard colors. Custom color matching is also available for specific project requirements.
